COMELEC Resumes Voter Registration

Date: 07 November 2016

Local Offices of the Election Officers (OEOs) nationwide resumed today the continuing registration process for the October 23, 2017 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections. The OEOs will be opened from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Mondays to Saturdays, until April 29, 2017 to receive the applications for registration.

According to latest monitored as of 10:30 AM by the Commission on Elections 16 areas, an average of 25 applicants registered per area, with Valenzuela City, Districts I and II registering the most number with a total of 140 applications.

"The turnout is good. It is not the best start but it is a fair start considering that this is the first day and we have a long registered period," Commission on Elections Spokesperson James Jimenez said.

The Commission is expecting three million voters to register for the barangay elections, and two million voters for the SK elections. Around 1,632,000 voters registered during the initial round of the voter registration from July 15 to 30, 2016.

Jimenez also reminded the public to bring their valid IDs as most of the problems encountered by the Election Officers (EOs) this morning involved registrants using IDs without their picture or address. Valid IDs include government-issued IDs, corporate IDs, current school IDs, senior citizens ID, and NBI Clearance.###
