The Commission on Elections through COMELEC Minute Resolution No. 16-0449 on July 12, 2016 has approved the grant of financial assistance to heirs of deceased election workers in connection with the May 9, 2016 election.
In his memorandum, Director James Jimenez cited Private First Class Louiden Quebec who was killed in an ambush while securing the delivery of vote counting machines (VCMs), Poll Clerk Caren Joy Mediola Miraña, VCM Coordinator Mohammad Jayfer A. Abbas, and Utility Clerk Manuel Salgado, who all died of extreme exhaustion and cardiac arrest while performing their election duties. Financial assistance will also be granted to Private Michael Cagata who was wounded in the ambush incident.
Jimenez also recommended the extension of financial assistance to the heirs of election workers who died on duty but were not included in the memorandum. ###
