COMELEC's Bautista to Participate in IFES Conference in Washington, D.C.

Date: 07 November 2016

The Commission on Election's Chairman Andres D. Bautista will participate in the 2016 U.S. Election Program (USEP) and Seventh Global Elections Organization (GEO-7) Conference in Washington, D.C. from November 6 to 10, 2016 hosted by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), per the invitation of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Bautista will join other election officials, parliamentarians and diplomats around the globe to observe and learn about the U.S. electoral system as well as discuss elections and voting from different international perspectives in the USEP event.

The GEO-7 Conference will stimulate technical discussions relevant to election administrators and focus on the use of data and technology to enhance transparency, accountability and credibility.

"This learning experience will bolster our efforts in bettering election administration. The Commission improved greatly in the conduct of the May 2016 NLE, but we are always looking to outdo ourselves," Bautista said.

In a separate event on November 10, Bautista will present an evaluation of the May 9, 2016 National and Local Elections at the Philippine Embassy's "Talakayan sa Pasuguan," where he will present sex disaggregated data and discuss gender equality in elections to the Filipino-American community. He will also speak on the same topic before the joint forum at the Atlanta Council for International Relations and the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta on November 14. And on November 9, he is the featured speaker at a discussion of Philippine elections at the National Endowment for Democracy.###
