The Commission on Elections attributed the credibility of the May 2016 National and Elections to the invaluable efforts and services of their election partners, especially the public school teachers.
"As we celebrate World Teachers' Day, we thank the more than 200,000 teachers who were members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) during the National elections for helping us conduct a secured, orderly, and credible elections," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said.
According to data from the Department of Education, out of the 650,000 members of the BEI who served in the midterm elections, 233,487 were teachers.
"We cannot thank them enough for their integrity as they risk their lives performing their election duties. But more than the greetings, we join the call for a better compensation package for our teachers." Jimenez added.
The Commission released Comelec Resolution 10160 in August recognizing its election partners for their invaluable support during the May 2016 elections, with a special mention for the selfless service of the teachers of the Department of Education. ###
