The Commission on Elections said that they are considering extending the suspension of the printing of ballots for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
"Although we already have clear indications of the postponement, we are still waiting for the signed law. So for now, we are looking into extending the suspension of the printing of ballots," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said.
The Commission suspended the printing of ballots on Friday, August 26, following the statement of President Duterte favoring the suspension of the October 31st elections.
The House of Representatives and the Senate agreed on Tuesday, August 30, to move the Barangay and SK polls to October 23, 2017. Congress will file a bill postponing the upcoming elections to next year. The measure could be approved on second reading at the House either on September 5 or 6, and on third and final reading on September 12.
"We still do not know how long the printing will be on hold. We are all waiting for further developments," Jimenez added.
The Comelec was scheduled to start the printing of ballots for the SK elections on September 1. ###
